The dog Rin Tin Tin wanted to be!
The Western Shepherd project started to restore health and sound structure of the original working companion herding dog perfected by Capt. Max von Stephanitz.
BLACK BART, foundation sire, was produced by years the best of three healthy herding breeds and one terrier breed.
Our goal 100% NO hip Dysplasia or other structural problems. Did we do it? Look and see.
“Ever see a 100+ lb dog stand on his back legs and walk backwards like a circus bear?” (ever see a dysplastic bear circus?)
Shedding, unintentionally along the genetic path, we have managed to greatly reduce the under coat of our Western Shepherds. We call this the “low to no shed effect” They shed but very little.
[description: Butch demonstrates the difference in the amount of fur shed by his German Shepherd (Taza) and Western Shepard (Bart). By using a furminator brush it’s easy to see the Western Shepherd has far less shedding.]
We have now started our W.S. 2.0 project our goal to have the W.S. the first hypoallergenic working breed.
